Metallica could take over the Super Bowl Halftime Show for 2026.

Currently preparing for a huge year in which they are going on an M72 World Tour, drummer Lars Ulrich has confirmed that a Las Vegas Sphere residency is also potentially in the cards.

This would follow in the footsteps of rock bands U2 and The Eagles, who have each enjoyed successful residences at the iconic Sphere.

“I’m not going to confirm anything, because there’s nothing to confirm,” Ulrich said on The Howard Stern Show. “But I’m not going to deny it either, because we’re all such fans of this venue [Sphere].

“All of our managers and our production people have been there and looked at it. It’s something that we’re considering, [but] nothing is etched in stone or green-lit.

“It’s something that we’re looking at at some point when the 2026 tour is done… I’m not going to bull**** you; I would f***ing love to do it, let there be no question about it.

“It’s not signed, sealed, and delivered, but speaking to me and asking my opinion, I would f***ing love to do it.”

When addressing the possibility of being involved in the NFL Super Bowl Halftime Show, Ulrich added: “F*** yeah, of course, we would.”

“First of all, we would do it,” the drummer said. “Second of all to do it in San Francisco would be a dream come true and would be the right fit…

“Certainly as somebody who’s represented San Francisco all over the world and shouted for decades about San Francisco and our love for the Bay Area, that part of it is the right fit. Ultimately it’s not our decision.”

Despite these talks, Ulrich did caution that the band “haven’t been approached.”

Metallica will begin the international stretch of their tour in Perth, Australia in November, before briefly heading to the Middle East in December.

The rock band will then enter the European stretch of their tour beginning in Athens, Greece in May, before ending their tour in July with two dates at the London Stadium in England.

Heavy metal has seen a huge uptake in live attendances in 2025, and Metallica, who have been playing to the masses for over four decades, are as relevant as ever before.

As such, it would not be a far cry for Metallica to earn the coveted Super Bowl Halftime Show slot, with The Who the last rock band to feature on the biggest televised music event in the world back in 2010 at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The Super Bowl is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world, no matter which two teams are playing in it, and is a huge platform for music artists to market themselves and their music.

Although they are not paid to perform the Halftime Show, the buzz around their name and music can bring in unfathomable streams of revenue afterwards.

Previous acts have included, Beyoncé, Rihanna, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar and the late Prince.

Super Bowl LX will take place at Levi’s Stadium – the home of the San Francisco 49ers – in Santa Clara, California on February 8, 2026.

What a fitting way for Metallica to honor the city they have resided in for most of their career — to rock the Halftime Show there.
