With a slew of injuries, the Niners add RB Brian Robinson
There is a new running back in the NFC West. The San Francisco 49ers, whom the Arizona Cardinals face twice each year, have traded for a running back.
They acquired running back Brian Robinson from the Washington Commanders for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick. The Commanders agreed to pay Robinson $1.25 million of the $3.41 million salary he was scheduled to make.
The addition of Robinson gives the Niners some proven depth behind Christian McCaffrey, who only played in four games last season, at running back. Robinson, though, also has had durability issues, as he has missed at least two games in each of his three NFL seasons.
He has been productive. Each year in the league he has had over 700 rushing yards, but he has not yet cracked 800.
The Niners were expecting second-year running back Isaac Guerendo to assume the primary backup role to McCaffrey, but he has been dealing with a shoulder injury this month. In other injury news in theri running back room, Patrick Taylor Jr. suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and rookie Corey Kiner suffered a high ankle sprain this past weekend.
Robinson rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown against the Cardinals for Washington last season in a 42-14 win.
