Now, you can add bar owner to Steph Curry’s long list of career accomplishments.
The Warriors superstar has teamed up with legendary chef Michael Mina for a bar and restaurant collaboration in Union Square, per the San Francisco Chronicle. Mina will bring back his Bourbon Steakhouse restaurant, with Curry’s bourbon bar, Eighth Rule, across the lobby in the Westin St. Francis.
Mina has had success with Bourbon Steakhouse, which has 11 restaurants scattered across the U.S. However, the recent resurgence of San Francisco post-pandemic convinced him to bring it back to the city.
“‘I really do want a flagship in San Francisco again,” Mina told the San Francisco Chronicle.
The Eighth Rule is a humorous nod to the seven official rules of bourbon production. The reservation-only bar will serve a variety of spirits and cocktails.
Curry and Mina have known each other for several years, ever since the chef partnered with Ayesha Curry to open International Smoke in 2017.
The 37-year-old is no stranger to bourbon, as he launched his own brand, Gentleman’s Cut, in 2023.
“I’ve always dreamt of creating my own little haven to bring people together, and now we have the perfect location,” Curry said in a press release.
The Eighth Rule and Bourbon Steak will be open until 2 a.m. on weekends, with plans for live music as well, a throwback to the legendary venue Compass Rose, which was previously in the hotel’s lobby.
Built in 1904, the St. Francis is one of the iconic Union Square hotels, and the partnership with Curry and Mina promises to be another exciting chapter in its history.
