Willy Adames is trying to end quite the curse.
The San Francisco Giants have not had a player hit 30 home runs in a season since Barry Bonds did it in 2004.

Adames has reached the stepping stone that will give him a chance. On Saturday, Adames hit his 25th home run of the season.
It’s the first time a Giants player has had 25 homers through 136 team games since 2007, when Bonds did it, according to MLB Network’s Sarah Langs.
Adames also recently became the first Giants player to have four multi-homer games in a single season since Bonds.
Now clearly, the lack of home runs has not prohibited success. The Giants have won three World Series titles in this span of no 30-HR players.
It’s still remarkable, though. Players all around the league are embracing home run swings, and yet somehow, the Giants haven’t had anyone put together a season with one home run every five-plus games.

Health is a factor of course, as is the approach to building a roster.
Even if Adames doesn’t get there this season, the addition of Rafael Devers seems like it’ll end these droughts sooner rather than later in the Bay Area.
But it’d be a nice consolation prize to a season that has gone off the rails a bit for Adames to take care of the home run business this season.
That’d allow the Giants to wipe the slate clean heading into 2026 and just try to get back to their winning ways, by whatever method works best.
