(KRON) — University of San Francisco Athletic Director Larry Williams died Thursday morning at the age of 62, the school announced. Williams was working out at War Memorial Gym at the Sobrato Center when he passed, university officials said.
He assumed the role of athletic director in August of 2022.

Williams, who was born in Orange County, Calif., is survived by his wife, Laura, their children, Kristin, Sean, Scott, Eric, and Louis, their families, and his grandchildren. He played in the NFL for eight years; he went to the University of Notre Dame, where he was a two-time All-American.

“The University of San Francisco is sad to announce that Athletic Director Larry Williams passed away this morning,” the school said.
“Our thoughts and prayers also go to the university’s 250 student-athletes and all of the coaches and staff under Larry’s skillful watch over the past three years,” USF wrote in a statement.

USF Deputy Athletics Director for Administration and Facilities Stephanie Shrieve-Hawkins was named the interim athletic director. No other details about his death were released at this time.
