The San Francisco 49ers entered their Week 9 battle with the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday as favorites, and Kyle Shanahan’s team showed why, earning a 34-24 victory.
San Francisco, without Brock Purdy again, had a balanced offensive attack and limited their turnovers, while Robert Saleh’s defense did just enough to secure the win and move the 49ers to 6-3 on the year.

After a solid win, there were still a few 49ers who shouldn’t be thrilled with their performance and will need to put in extra effort on the practice field this week before they play again.
Colton McKivitz
McKivitz allowed multiple pressures and a crucial strip-sack on Sunday. His performance even got future Hall of Famer Richard Sherman to call out the 49ers to look to upgrade their offensive line this offseason.
Spencer Burford
Burford got his first start at left guard this year, replacing rookie Connor Colby, who hadn’t been great while replacing Ben Bartch, who is on injured reserve. Burford wasn’t horrible, but he did allow some pressure, including a sack.

Demarcus Robinson
Robinson was supposed to be a big addition for San Francisco this year, and he’s been a dud. On Sunday, he was held without a catch on one target. In six games this year, he’s caught eight passes on 17 targets for 108 yards.
Run defense
The Giants entered Sunday without top running back Cam Skattebo, but they were still able to run well with Jaxson Dart, Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary. In fact, San Francisco allowed the trio to rush for 117 yards and a touchdown on 5.6 yards per carry. They’re lucky that New York couldn’t sustain more drives with an efficient passing game.
Team IQ/preparation
The 49ers called for six penalties for 34 yards. Some of them were completely avoidable, including two offsides, one false start and an illegal shift. Tatum Bethune’s unnecessary roughness penalty probably shouldn’t have been called, as Dart was starting to slide.
