Blue Note set to close Napa location, plans to open San Francisco club

After nearly a decade of bringing quality music to the wine country, Blue Note Napa is set to close its doors at the end of 2025.

The final Blue Note Napa concert is set for Dec. 31, when the club will host a New Year’s Eve concert with Brian Culbertson at its longtime home of the Napa Valley Opera House in downtown Napa. (For a complete calendar of events, visit bluenotejazz.com/napa/.)

Plans are well underway, however, to hopefully open a Blue Note location in San Francisco in the near future.

“Blue Note Napa has always been about bringing people together through great music and shared experiences,” says Ken Tesler, managing director of Blue Note Napa. “We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built and grateful to the artists and audiences. I would especially like to give a special shout out and huge thank you to the Napa community that embraced and supported us though the past nine-plus
years. We would not have been able to accomplish what we have without the incredible Napa locals.

“Though our time at the Opera House is ending, this is far from the end — it’s an evolution. While continuing our significant outdoor presence in Napa Valley we are looking forward to the very exciting opportunity for Blue Note in San Francisco.”

Blue Note Napa has been a popular destination for jazz fans and other music lovers ever since it opened at the historic Opera House in 2016. Acts who have played the venue include Chris Botti, Kenny G, David Sanborn, Carlos Santana, Billy Gibbons, Al di Meola, Stanley Clarke, Kellie Fuller, Marcus Miller and Bob James.

Although the club is closing, Blue Note will still maintain a presence in Napa Valley through such entertainment offerings as the Blue Note Napa’s Summer Sessions at The Meritage Resort and Spa. Indeed, operators are planning an expanded schedule — as many as 40 shows — at The Meritage in 2026. The 2025 lineup featured such acts as The Beach Boys, Boz Scaggs, Chelsea Handler, Violent Femmes, Young the Giant, Juanes, Grace Jones and Santigold.

Blue Note is also “actively seeking a new home in the San Francisco area” and discussions “are underway and much progress has been made in determining a
location in San Francisco for the club” according to a news release.

“As we look ahead, we’re excited about the opportunity to finally bring Blue Note to San Francisco,” says Steven Bensusan, president of Blue Note Entertainment Group. “The Bay Area has such a rich musical heritage, and we’ve long envisioned having a presence in the city. We look forward to creating a space that reflects the energy and spirit of the San Francisco while staying true to the intimacy and
authenticity that define Blue Note.”

Blue Note also recently opened a location in Los Angeles, joining other spots in New York, Honolulu, Tokyo and other cities.
