July 12 (UPI) — Smoke from a passenger’s laptop computer prompted the evacuation of an American Airways aircraft at San Francisco Worldwide Airport Friday.
Airport officers stated American Airways Flight 2045 was about to take off for Miami at about 12:17 p.m. PDT when the crew reported smoke within the cabin.
Crew members evacuated the Airbus A321 plane and eliminated the supply of the smoke, which was a laptop computer in a passenger’s bag.
The San Francisco Fireplace Division arrived on the scene and extinguished the laptop computer by submerging it in a bath of water. Fireplace division officers stated the smoke was brought on by a lithium-ion battery hearth.
Some passengers used emergency slides to evacuate the aircraft, whereas others used the jet bridge, American Airways stated.
“We thank our crew members for his or her professionalism and apologize to our clients for the inconvenience,” the airline stated in a press release.
A spokesperson with the San Francisco Worldwide Airport instructed CBS Information that three passengers suffered minor accidents through the evacuation. One individual was transported to a hospital for therapy.
Flight 2045 was delayed and is now scheduled to depart at 11:15 p.m., in accordance with the airline’s web site. It could arrive in Miami at 8:40 a.m. EDT Saturday.
