Bunnies are small. Bunnies are tiny — well, that’s not true of one bun, appropriately named Alex the Great. Alex isn’t your typical bunny. He’s a Flemish Giant Rabbit, meaning that he’s not just a little on the big side, he’s an “absolute unit.”
The bunny positively tickled animal lover Wendly Albright, who goes by The Parrot Lady online.
Giant doesn’t even begin to describe the half of it. In the video that Albright shared, it shows her meeting the bunny at the San Francisco International Airport. The rabbit took up the entirety of the carriage he was being carried around in.

“He’s 30 lbs.,” his owner said from off-screen. That’s a big bunny! His owner explained that the Flemish Giant was part of a therapy program at the airport.
“He’s also one of the most famous animals in the world,” the man explained. And we can see why. The bunny had a crowd around him, just hoping to get a look.
People in the comments section were so in love with Alex. “That is the biggest gingerbread loaf I’ve ever seen,” wrote one person. “I thought he was a curled up Golden Retriever at first,” someone else teased. “The way he flows into every curve of his carriage,” chimed in a third person. “I had a Flemish Giant as a kid growing up!! Best. Pet. Ever!! He was so smart! He lived 13 years!” one commenter shared.
How Big Are Flemish Giant Rabbits?
As his owner said, Alex is a whopping 30 lbs. But is that big compared to other bunnies of his breed? The answer is yes. While on the larger side, it’s more common for Flemish Giants to be anywhere from 15 to 20 lbs. Adult Flemish Giants can be 2.5–4 feet in length when they’re stretched out. There’s a reason why they’re called Gentle Giants, you know!
These rabbits have pretty long lifespans too. They can live anywhere from 8 to 10 years and have an average litter size of 5 to 12 offspring. They’re very docile rabbits and are very friendly and social.
Their large size does mean that they need more space than other rabbit breeds. They don’t like to be in their cage too much, so you’ll need space to let them out and stretch their legs. They might even befriend other animals in the house! Amazingly, Flemish Giants can be trained to use the litter box. Making them truly a wonderful domestic pet.
Alex’s size is just another reason why he’s extra-special. He’s the most wonderful boy!
