A man was dramatically rescued in California after he was stranded on the edge of a cliff at a beach in San Francisco.
A rescue operation was initiated after the man stuck on the edge of a cliff was heard yelling for help shortly before 1:00 p.m. Sunday by a person at San Francisco’s Baker Beach, located near the Golden Gate Bridge. That person called 911 and alerted authorities of the situation, San Francisco Fire Department (SSFD) spokesperson Lt. Mariano Elias told USA TODAY Tuesday.
Multiple units of the SFFD responded to the incident along with the California Highway Patrol Air Operations helicopter, which was called for assistance.

‘He was very appreciative’
Video footage released by the California Highway Patrol shows the man on the cliff as a crew member is lowered from the helicopter by a hoist to rescue him.
Elias said it was not known if the person “had climbed up from the beach or down from the trail” but that he was safely rescued and “hoisted to the beach.” He was evaluated by SFFD paramedics in their ambulance after the rescue and denied further medical assistance. It was also not known how long he had been stuck there before he was rescued.
“He was very appreciative and thanked us for helping him,” Elias said.
