GREEN BAY − The San Francisco 49ers are coming to Lambeau Field on Sunday to face the Green Bay Packers short-handed.
Quarterback Brock Purdy and defensive end Nick Bosa will not play in the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said during his Friday news conference. Purdy took a hit to his throwing shoulder area during last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Purdy was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday and didn’t practice Friday. The third-year quarterback has completed 202 of 306 passes for 2,613 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions with a 95.9 passer rating. He’s also rushed 51 times for 267 yards and four touchdowns.

“He got the MRI on Monday. We thought he just needed some rest, and we really weren’t concerned about him not being good this week,” Shanahan said. “When he started up Thursday, just surprised him and surprised us on how it felt, so we had to shut him down.”
The 49ers announced Brandon Allen will be the starting quarterback against the Packers. Allen was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 and has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals. He joined the 49ers last year. He’s played in 16 games with 9 starts over his career completing 149 of 263 (56.7%) passes for 1,611 yards, 10 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
Bosa is dealing with a hip and oblique injury he suffered against the Seahawks in Week 11. The loss of Bosa is a huge blow to the team’s pass rush. The dominant edge rusher has 24 total tackles, 7 sacks, 1 forced fumble and an interception.

From the 49ers Friday injury report, linebacker Tatum Bethune, wide receiver Jacob Cowing, defensive lineman Kevin Givens and cornerback Charvarius Ward are also out. Offensive linemen Trent Williams and Jon Feliciano are questionable.
“We’ve had a real good week of practice. I know it’s disappointing,” Shanahan said. “We knew there was a chance for Nick (being out), I think the guys were a little surprised with Brock the other day. We addressed all that today. We’re going to have 48 guys in uniform, and I know our guys believe in themselves. I believe in them. We’re missing two good players, definitely, but we’ve got a lot of good players out there. By no means do we not have a chance to win. We’re going to fight our tails off and expect this to be a real good game.”
For the Packers, Jaire Alexander (knee) and Edgerrin Cooper (hamstring) are not playing in the game.
