The biggest game of the NFL and most watched television program of the year is roughly a month away. Starting this week, 14 teams across the AFC and NFC will compete in the NFL playoffs for a chance to appear at the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Last year’s championship matchup ended in an overtime victory for the Kansas City Chiefs, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22. It was the second Super Bowl title in a row for the Chiefs, who are heavily favored in this year’s playoffs.
While it’s too soon to know what two teams will square off next month, here’s what we know about Super Bowl 59.

When is the Super Bowl 2025?
Sunday, Feb. 9 is the date of this year’s Super Bowl.

Where is Super Bowl 2025 being played?
The AFC and NFC champion teams competing for the Vince Lombardi trophy will face each other this year at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The last time the stadium hosted a Super Bowl was in 2013 between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens.

What Super Bowl is it?
Super Bowl 59 is also referred to as “Super Bowl LIX.” In Roman numerals, the “L” means 50 and the IX stands for 9. Added together they make 59.
Next year will be Super Bowl 60, otherwise known as Super Bowl LX.
Who is playing in Super Bowl 59?
The two NFL teams, one from the AFC and one from the NFC, playing in this year’s Super Bowl have not yet been decided. The NFL playoffs begin Saturday, Jan. 11, and will gradually narrow the field down until only two teams are left standing.

Who’s singing during the Super Bowl halftime show?
Kendrick Lamar is headlining the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show this year. The Grammy Award-winning artist is no stranger to football’s biggest night. Lamar performed during the halftime show at Super Bowl 56 in 2022 alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige.
“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date,” Lamar said on social media. “And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
