The New York Jets have cast a massive net in search of their next head coach. It could’ve been even larger, but it’s not thanks to Brian Griese.
Griese is the quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers. According to a report from the New York Post, the Jets requested to interview him… and it did not happen because he declined the opportunity:

Griese, 49, was a third-round pick of the Denver Broncos at the 1998 NFL draft. He ended up playing until 2008 with five teams in the league.
Griese declining an interview is a bit surprising considering he is not a “hot candidate” having only been requested to interview in New York.
But Griese might just be content where he is with the 49ers and working with their quarterback, Brock Purdy. Griese has only been a coach, at any level, since taking his current role in 2022. That could factor into his decision to decline as well.
Regardless, the Jets very much moved on considering their candidate total surpassed 15 coaches.
Jets Wire will provide updates on the team’s search for a head coach as information is made available.
