The Oregon State women’s basketball team lost its second game in a row, falling 54-52 at San Francisco on Thursday night.
The game was a lot like the teams’ first meeting in Corvallis, with the Dons building a lead and the Beavers chasing them down. But unlike the first game, San Francisco (9-10, 6-4) was able to make the plays it needed at the end to snap a four-game losing streak.
Here are some of the highlights and key statistics from the game:
It was over when: Oregon State missed back-to-back shots with less than 10 seconds left to play while trailing 53-52. The Beavers were then forced to foul and San Francisco freshman Angeliki Ziaka made 1 of 2 free throws for the final margin.
Playing catch-up: The Beavers trailed 14-6 after the first quarter then rallied in the second quarter to cut the halftime deficit to 25-24. The Dons came out in the third quarter and extended their lead, going up by seven entering the fourth. Oregon State then went on a 12-0 lead to take a 48-43 lead after a layup by Catarina Ferreira. But the final run belonged to the Dons, who regained the lead on a 3-pointer by Freja Werth with 48 seconds left on the clock.

Player of the game: Catarina Ferreira did not start against San Francisco as coach Scott Rueck inserted Sela Heide into the starting lineup. But Ferreira was a big part of the Beavers’ rally in the second half and finished the game with 12 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Hat tip: AJ Marotte scored a team-high 13 points with four rebounds.
Key stat: Oregon State got outrebounded badly by San Francisco. The Dons had 38 total rebounds to 32 for the Beavers. San Francisco had 18 offensive rebounds and 19 second-chance points.
Up next: Oregon State (9-11, 5-4) stays on the road to play at Pacific at 6 p.m. Saturday. That game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
