There appears to be a mass exodus of wide receivers happening for the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle on Wednesday announced the release of veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett. Shortly after that, news broke from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport that veteran wide receiver DK Metcalf requested a trade.
It would seem for the San Francisco 49ers that potentially two quality receivers leaving their division foe would be a good thing. Alas, 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir wasn’t thrilled to see new of Metcalf’s trade request. Lenoir jumped on Twitter to express his displeasure with Metcalf for trying to get away from San Francisco’s Pacific Northwest rival.
He said on the social media site that Metcalf is the only reason he enjoyed facing the Seahawks:
Bro You can’t leave Seattle you the only one that made that game fun https://t.co/iezTAWn957

The 49ers during Lenoir’s tenure with the team are 6-3 against the Seahawks including the playoffs. Metcalf and the 49ers secondary got into some spats, particularly once Charvarius Ward entered the fray and became a difficult matchup for Seattle’s big receiver.
If Metcalf leaving makes things less fun for the 49ers, that’s a fine trade off for not having to deal with him in coverage anymore. Metcalf, a 2019 second-round pick of the Seahawks, has played in 12 games against San Francisco in his career. In those matchups he has 62 receptions for 750 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers amount to 88 catches, 1,063 yards and seven touchdowns.
It may be less fun for Lenoir and the secondary not going toe-to-toe with Metcalf, but it should also make Seattle’s passing game easier to defend.
