Jacksonville native and former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones has found a new home. Jones agreed to terms with the San Francisco 49ers on a two-year, $7 million deal according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Jones spent last season with his hometown team after being traded from the New England Patriots in the offseason.

Due to Trevor Lawrence’s injuries, Jones played in 10 games and started seven of those contest. He recorded eight touchdowns and eight interception while completing 65.3 percent of his passes.

Jones only won two games as a starter, beating the Tennessee Titans twice down the stretch. He never found his footing in Doug Pederson’s offense and struggled to play consistently well for the team he grew up rooting for.

He didn’t close the door on returning to the team, but after the firings of Doug Pederson and Trent Baalke and hiring of new leadership, it was always unlikely that he’d return.

That unlikeliness became a reality on Monday when the Jaguars agreed to terms with quarterback Nick Mullens to become Lawrence’s backup. But Jones was able to find a home with the 49ers and will be a reserve behind Brock Purdy.

Jones joins tight ends Evan Engram and Luke Farrell who agreed to terms elsewhere this offseason with Engram joining the Broncos and Farrell landing in San Francisco.

The Jaguars agreed to terms with nine new players and will introduce those players on Thursday at the Miller Electric Center.
