Shedeur Sanders has generated a lot of buzz through the first couple of days at the NFL owners’ meetings.
The Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns, who own the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks, respectively, have each commented to the media about how impressive Sanders has been. Most mock drafts have Miami quarterback Cam Ward as the first overall pick and the Titans’ preference at No. 1. Perhaps Sanders still has a chance to supplant Ward as Tennessee’s choice, but for now, Sanders looks headed elsewhere.

USA TODAY’s latest mock draft from Nate Davis concurs that the Titans select Ward, leaving the Browns with a franchise-altering decision at No. 2. Do they continue to try and make it work with the quarterbacks in-house (Deshaun Watson and Kenny Pickett) and select the top defensive player on their board or do they select their future quarterback in Shedeur Sanders?
Davis has the Browns going with the latter and selecting Sanders, who becomes head coach Kevin Stefanski’s handpicked quarterback and the future of the Cleveland Browns.
As for Sanders’ Heisman Trophy-winning teammate Travis Hunter, Davis has the Colorado two-way star going right behind Shedeur at No. 3 overall to the New York Giants. After the Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, many believe they will not select a quarterback but instead draft Hunter or another top defender.
Hunter would form a dynamic duo with Malik Nabers, who set an NFL record for most receptions by a rookie with 109 last season. With Russel Wilson under center, Hunter could have a chance to break that number, and the Giants’ offense suddenly seems like a dangerous group.

Davis lays out the scenario that the Giants might offer Hunter his best chance to play on both sides of the ball.
“Bad as the Giants were in 2024, they enter 2025 with a solid group of receivers (including Malik Nabers at the top of the depth chart) and corners (including recently signed Paulson Adebo at the top of the depth chart). That means a golden opportunity to take a unique, elite player like Hunter and allowing him to play both positions in the NFL – as he desires to do – without demanding he cover top receivers, be the team’s primary target or play an inordinate numbers of snaps as he settles into whatever his role develops into.”
The Giants sure seem like a top fit for Hunter, and it would be exciting to see what he could do as a team’s second option where he should not often draw an opponent’s top cornerback.
The 2025 NFL draft goes down April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with Colorado’s two stars expected to be selected on day one.
