San Francisco 49ers sign Andre Dillard and Nicholas Petit-Frere, former disappointing Titans OL

The San Francisco 49ers made a couple roster additions on May 9 that is sure to produce some snickering in Nashville.

San Francisco announced that it signed former Tennessee Titans offensive tackles Andre Dillard and Nicholas Petit-Frere to one-year deals, with an eye toward adding veteran depth up front.

Both contributed to a two-year stretch of some of the worst offensive line play since the Titans moved to Nashville.

Dillard started 10 games at left tackle in 2023 after being signed in free agency from Philadelphia, and was credited for a league-high 12 sacks allowed along with 42 pressures allowed by Pro Football Focus. Dillard was released shortly after the season ended and spent 2024 as a backup with the Packers.

Petit-Frere was a third-round pick by Tennessee in 2022 and was OK as a rookie starter at right tackle in 2022. He missed the first four games of the 2023 season via a gambling suspension, then was placed on IR after playing three games upon his return.

But Petit-Frere’s worst stretch by a large margin was last season, when he was credited with 10 sacks and 41 pressures allowed per PFF and committed 10 penalties across 15 games with 10 starts at right tackle. The Titans were forced to rotate less-than-optimal options at right tackle by the end of the season, and Petit-Frere was waived last month.

Tennessee has spent heavily in the draft and free agency to fix the position, using the No. 7 overall pick to select JC Latham in the 2024 draft and signing former Steelers tackle Dan Moore to a 4-year deal in March worth reportedly $82 million.

San Francisco returns All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams and dependable starting right tackle Colton McKivitz in 2025.

The 49ers and Titans are scheduled to play each other in San Francisco in the regular season, with dates and times to be announced next week with the NFL schedule release.
