The San Francisco 49ers, one of the Arizona Cardinals’ NFC West rivals, are at it again. Days after they gave quarterback Brock Purdy a massive contract extension, they have given an extension to one of their key starters.

This time it is linebacker Fred Warner.

Warner and the Niners agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $63 million that includes $56 million in guarantees.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it is the second time in his seven-year career that he has been made the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL.

Warner is the centerpiece of the Niners’ defense. He has been a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro four times, including the last three years. He has missed one game in his career.

Last season, he had 131 total tackles, five tackles for loss, a sack, two quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions, one he returned for a touchdown.

He had two years remaining on the five-year extension he got in 2021 and is now under contract through 2029.
