The San Francisco 49ers signed star field general Brock Purdy to an extension worth $265 million over the course of the next five years.

And the organization could be not be more relieved.

Among the people glad that Purdy got a new deal with the team is Niners first-round pick Mykel Williams, who recently spoke with Kay Adams on Up & Adams.

“Thank God,” Williams said jokingly. “We needed Brock. Brock’s the guy. I believe in Brock Purdy. He’s done it. He went to a Super Bowl. He’s shown that he can take the team to that realm, so why not pay him? Why not believe in him?”

The rookie might be in his first season in the NFL, but he sounds like he is speaking with a lot of wisdom. The 49ers might have been 6-11 this past season, but Purdy still put up some solid numbers.

He finished 2024 with 3,864 passing yards and 20 touchdowns on just under 66 percent completion. A lot of the Niners struggles were cause by injuries to their stars, so not all of the blame can be placed on Purdy.

Achilles tendinitis kept superstar running back Christian McCaffrey out for four games, and a severe know injury sidelined wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the last 10 games of the season.

The 25-year-old quarterback will go into 2025 looking to get the team back on the right track, as well as prove to everyone else why he was worthy of an expensive contract extension.
