June is Pride month, and San Francisco is set to hold plenty of events honoring members of the LGBTQ+ community and championing their inclusion.
Here are seven events for you to celebrate over the course of 30 days.
Little Rainbows Family Pride (June 1)
Spark Social SF, the outdoor Mission Bay food truck park, is hosting a Pride month celebration for the first time ever, which organizers are calling “a full day of fun designed for every kind of family.” Running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the event is open to kids, pets, residents and visitors.
Planned activities include a free book giveaway for children, live stage performances of kids’ stories with drag performers, a DJ and a live band. Children will also be able to color at an art station and jump in an inflatable bounce house. Guests can register to attend through Eventbrite.
Drag Me Downtown Series (Fridays in June)
Returning for its third edition, the Downtown SF Partnership’s series of free, pop-up drag performances will take place every Friday at different venues throughout downtown San Francisco. This year’s locations are One Market Restaurant, 101 California Plaza and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Hosted by Bobby Friday, the series culminates with an outdoor June 27 block party along Front Street co-hosted by Peaches Christ.
While the shows are free to attend, guests are encouraged to confirm their attendance to get exclusive giveaway items. There are also $10 tickets, the proceeds of which support Trangesnder District. Attendees can pre-register for the first three drag shows at this link, while Drag Me to Front St. has a separate link.
Magical Realism: Queer Caribbean Sounds (June 13)
The SOMArts Cultural Center will close out its Spring Queer Arts Festival with what organizers are billing as a celebration of joy, resilience and healing through sound and movement. Esoterica Trpoical, a queer musician, will lead the night’s performances along with Batey Tambo, an Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba ensemble. The evening concludes with a reggaeton dance party hosted by DJ Kayate.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event is scheduled to run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite, but organizers said that attendees will not be turned away for a lack of funds.
Castro Night Market (June 20)
Planners of the Castro Night Market, held on the third Friday of each month, say the Pride month edition will be the event’s biggest version yet. The night market’s footprint extends one block down 18th Street and stretches from Diamond to Hartford streets.
The night market will feature over 30 vendors and three stages of live entertainment, all of which Sister Roma of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are hosting. Running from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., the night market will also be an entertainment zone, allowing visitors to purchase and consume to-go alcoholic beverages within the block party’s area. Admission is free and open to the public.
San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus Pride Concert (June 21)
The Curran Theatre will hold two performances of its Pride Concert, with the 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. shows featuring appearances by Justin Tranter, a nonbinary Grammy-nominated songwriter known for penning tracks like Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” This year’s concert, officials say, will celebrate and uplift the transgender and nonbinary communities, including performances of original compositions written by transgender artists and stories with themes of resilience and belonging.
Tickets, which range in price from $36 to $248, are available on the BroadwaySF website. The concert consists of two acts with one intermission and is not intended for children under the age of 4.
San Francisco Opera Pride Concert (June 27)
Hosted by “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” winner and classically trained singer Monet X Change, San Francisco Opera will present its inaugural Pride month concert, complete with immersive art projections and a post-show dance party at War Memorial Opera House. The 80-minute concert will feature works by opera composers like Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Leonard Bernstein, as well as songs from productions like “A Star is Born” and artists like Freddie Mercury.
Tickets can be purchased on the SF Opera website and range in price from $35 to $225. Drag artist Juanita MORE! will host the post-show dance party.
San Francisco Pride Festival (June 28-29)
The City’s 55th annual Pride celebration will emanate from the Civic Center, with the two-day event featuring a main stage for live entertainment and a street fair with over 300 artists and exhibitors.
San Francisco’s Pride month celebration culminates in the grand parade on June 29, which is set to begin on Market Street at Embarcadero Plaza. More than 250 contingents will march down Market Street in a four-hour procession heading toward the intersection of Market and 9th streets.
