San Francisco Giants announcer Mike Krukow offered a brief summary of a explosive tantrum by one of the Miami Marlins’ batters Thursday.
In the top of the fifth inning of Thursday’s game, center fielder Dane Myers was in the batter’s box with his team ahead 8-5. Facing reliever Spencer Bivens, Myers quickly fell behind in the count after taking an 0-1 changeup for a called strike two. On the very next pitch, Myers whiffed on a sweeper to end the top of the fifth.
Immediately after striking out, Myers broke his bat in half over his knee. Then, spiked both halves of the bat to the ground before also spiking his helmet down.
“Unhappy hitter, Dan Myers,” play-by-play announcer Dave Flemming said. “Marlins back ahead.”
The broadcast then cut to commercial.
Just before that commercial break, however, Krukow gave his thoughts on the outburst with a single word.
“Bush,” he said emphatically.
The comment was heard on what was presumably a different feed. It was first noticed by Awful Announcing.
When the Marlins were on the field for the bottom of the fifth, Flemming and Krukow revisited Myers’ tantrum.
“It just doesn’t feel good when you do this,” Krukow said. “I’ll tell you what, that’s impressive.”
Mike Krukow and Dave Flemming further discussed Myers’ “impressive” tantrum.
“If he knew how much the opposing pitcher got out of it and how enjoyable it is, he would never do it again.”
