Matthew Short delivered an impressive all-around performance as the San Francisco Unicorns secured their sixth consecutive victory in Major League Cricket, defeating the Seattle Orcas by 32 runs.

Opening the innings, the Australian star hammered 52 runs from just 29 deliveries, marking his third straight half-century. His quick-fire partnership of 68 runs with fellow Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk (34 off 21) set a solid platform for the Unicorns. However, both batters fell within a span of seven balls, leaving the Unicorns at 93 for three.

West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd then took charge, anchoring the innings with a crucial 56 off 31 balls, despite losing four batting partners cheaply. The Unicorns closed their innings at 176 for eight.

Seattle Orcas made a strong start in their chase, racing to 59 without loss during the powerplay. Shayan Jahangir (40 off 22) and David Warner (23 off 20) looked set to build momentum before both were dismissed within three deliveries, disrupting the Orcas’ progress.

Short made an impact with the ball, claiming the wicket of Warner and finishing with remarkable figures of three for 12 from his four overs.

Haris Rauf led the Unicorns’ bowling attack with four for 32, removing key batters Heinrich Klaasen and Shimron Hetmyer, and strengthening his position as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with six scalps.

The victory keeps the Unicorns unbeaten at the top of the table with six wins from six matches, while the Orcas remain anchored at the bottom after five consecutive losses.
