New 49ers Owner Partner Vinod Khosla Discusses the Future of Tech and AI at Horizon Summit

Earlier this year, Silicon Valley businessman and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla and his family joined the San Francisco 49ers as a new owner partner, further strengthening the team’s deep ties to innovation and entrepreneurship in the Bay Area.

The Khosla family, led by Neal Khosla and his father Vinod, joined two other local families, the Deeters and the Griffiths, in acquiring a non-controlling, minority interest in the club. The investment was approved by the NFL at the League meeting and is expected to help drive the continued growth and evolution of the 49ers organization.

Just weeks after the investment was announced, Khosla took the stage at the 2025 49ers Horizon Summit presented by NetApp, held at Levi’s® Stadium on June 26. As one of the event’s keynote speakers, he joined a group of forward-thinking executives and innovators who are shaping the future of sports, business, and technology.

“It’s not a long conversation,” Khosla said, when asked about the decision to become part-owner of the 49ers. “Neal and I have had season tickets since he was probably five, and we’ve come to games together. It’s probably one of the best things we do, supporting for over 25 years. [The decision] was pretty easy.”

In his keynote remarks, Khosla offered a thought-provoking look at the road ahead. He shared expert perspectives on the role of artificial intelligence and the ways sports entertainment will continue to evolve in a rapidly shifting digital landscape.

“You’re constantly evolving and the world keeps changing,” Khosla said. “You have to think about that world differently and how you manage change to keep evolving.”

“The possibilities of AI are incredible,” Khosla said. “Entertainment will be a very big part of it in the years ahead.”
